1. How does it work?

The UltraShape treatment uses high energy focused ultrasound technology to remove unwanted fat. An ultrasound beam selectively targets fat cells in the chosen body region, and disrupts them without harming surrounding nerves, blood vessels or skin.

2. What happens to the fat cells?

During the treatment the fat cell membranes are disrupted. It is dispersed into the fluid between the cells and then transported through the vascular and lymphatic systems to the liver. Once in the liver, there is no distinction between fat coming from the UltraShape treatment and the fat originating from consumed food. They are both cleared from the liver via the body's natural mechanisms.

3. How many treatments will I need?

This will depend on the amount of fat you wish to lose. You can expect to lose up to 2.5cm in body circumference per treatment. More guidance will be given at your free consultation with the doctor.

4. Which areas can be treated?

At present, we are able to treat the abdomen, inner and outer thighs (saddle bags) and flanks (love handles).

5. Who performs the treatment?

You will always see a doctor for your consultation. The preparation and treatment may be performed by either our doctor or nurse who has been trained in the UltraShape treatment.

6. How long does the treatment take?

This depends on the size of the area to be treated. The time also includes a consultation and preparation for treatment. As a guide, you should expect your appointment to last between 1- 2 hours.

7. What happens during treatment?

After your consultation, the doctor (or nurse) will measure your body circumference and mark the area(s) to be treated. A hand-held device delivering ultrasound beams gently glides over the marked area, guided by innovative tracking technology to ensure smooth and even contouring results. You can resume your daily routine as soon as the treatment is over.

8. What does it feel like?

The majority of patients report no pain or discomfort. Some patients may experience a mild tingling and a warm sensation during the pulses.

9. Will I experience any side effects following treatment?

You may experience some redness and a mild swelling to the treated area(s), but this should subside within a few hours. Patients have stated that there has been no post-treatment pain or discomfort. The skin remains smooth and intact and there is no scarring.

10. How do I know if I am suitable for UltraShape?

The UltraShape treatment is suitable for men and women who are average to mildly overweight who wish to acquire a shapely body contour.

It provides an alternative to those seeking effective removal of excess fat cells without surgery. UltraShape is not suitable for those who are very overweight. This can be discussed at your consultation.

11. What should I do after treatment?

You can resume your normal routine immediately. We advise you to follow a low carbohydrate diet for four days following your UltraShape treatment, which may aid in the metabolism of the mobilised fat. This will be discussed further in your consultation.
